Atlegang Bana Foundation
Katlego Thwane, 28, is a passionate schoolteacher from Dobsonville in Soweto who believes that children should be given a right to education even beyond the classroom. He is the founder and CEO of Atlehang Bana Foundation, a non-profit organisation he started in the backroom of his parental home in 2015. Thwane says the inspiration to run the educational programme is driven by his desire to help brighten the prospects of youth around him so they could lead lives full of meaning. “I wish to help develop a generation of leaders who will approach their life challenges with integrity, resilience and compassion. I’d like to create leaders who will have the interest of their community at heart and serve selflessly,” says Thwane. He also runs a nutritional programme he started after noticing that some learners who came to his foundation without having had any breakfast, which led them to lose concentration during lessons.
