'Give our Baxter a chance'

GIVE the man a chance to prove himself.

FOCUSED: Bobby Motaung

I say, just give the man a chance to prove himself

That's the unambiguous response given yesterday by Kaizer Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung, to media reports that Amakhosi coach-designate, Stuart Baxter may have falsified his curriculum vitae with embellishments of contrived achievements.

"I say, just give the man a chance to prove himself," Motaung said.

Motaung said his club's decision was based on a clear understanding of Baxter's capabilities and what the club needed.

Chiefs MD Kaizer Motaung told Sunday World: "I've read about it (the claims of Baxter's CV embellishment). I can't comment about something I don't know."

He added: "The right person to talk to is the coach himself."

A daily newspaper had verified what Baxter stated in his CV that he had won the league with Vissel Kobe in 2006. According to the report, it turned out the club finished third in the Japanese second division that year.

Baxter also appeared not to have told the truth about his record in Sweden and Finland.

The Chiefs manager Motaung said he was not prepared to entertain the reports.

He said they appointed Baxter based on what they think he can do for the team.

"We are going to focus on what we think the coach is capable of," said Motaung.

"We know what the club needs and it was for this reason we enlisted his services and we are convinced that he will do what he has been appointed for."

Baxter has signed a two-season contract with Amakhosi and he officially begins his job next season.

He replaces Vladimir Vermezovic who was fired last month.

Nincompoop

HOW DID YOU APPOINT THIS COACH, IS HE ALSO A KC FAMILY MEMBER TO JUST GET THE JOB? I NEVER UNDERSTAND HOW THE COACHES IN PSL TEAM ARE APPOINTED, THERE IS NEVER TRANPARENCY THERE. NO SHORTLIST OR INTERVIEWS ARE HELD, THERE IS NEVER A CLEAR EVALUATION ON COACHES, THEY ARE ONLY JUDGED ON COLOUR AND WHERE THEY COME FROM.
