Platinum Stars put Da Gama on ice as bribery probe starts
PLATINUM Stars have confirmed they will investigate allegations of favouritism and soliciting bribes levelled by players against head coach Owen da Gama.
As published in Sunday World two weeks ago, Stars said it views the allegations in a serious light and will be conducting an investigation after suspending Da Gama, pictured, on Friday.
An independent investigation team, which will be established by the club, will call witnesses, including Da Gama, to provide information that will assist in drafting recommendations to the board.
The team's academy directors Cavin Johnson and Allan Freeze have been appointed caretaker coaches pending the outcome of the investigation.
Meanwhile, Platinum Stars has moved their Premiership league match against Lamontville Golden Arrows to Moruleng Stadium on Wednesday.
Originally set for Royal Bafokeng Stadium, the game has been moved because of routine maintenance to the lighting system.
