FORMER Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has been invited to testify in the alleged Bafana match-fixing scandal.

They will receive maximum cooperation from all of us

Together with his technical committee, which includes incumbent coach Pitso Mosimane and former Bafana team manager Sipho Nkumane, Parreira has been invited by the Fifa investigations committee to testify in the scandal which has rocked Safa.

Though Mosimane would not confirm it, Sunday World understands Mosimane has received an e-mail from the world football governing body.

Nkumane has confirmed receipt of an invitation and added he will cooperate with the investigation.

"This is not a Safa investigation but a Fifa investigation. However, we will give them any assistance they need. We are on record that we are against corruption," said Safa president Kirsten Nematandani.

"They will receive maximum cooperation from all of us."

Safa CEO Robin Petersen said they have asked Fifa to prioritise the matter so a that conclusion can be reached sooner.

Meanwhile, Petersen has taken strong exception to an SA Sport Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) statement that proclaimed Safa are under investigation by the Olympic body.

Sascoc CEO Tubby Reddy was quoted in Sowetan as saying Safa will be probed on allegations of Bafana match-fixing and the disappearance of 2010 World Cup Legacy Trust funds.

Petersen said Nematandani had received a letter from Reddy, which was titled: "Meeting request to address various issues within Safa."

"The letter indicated that sports minister Fikile Mbalula wanted clarity on certain issues from Safa and had asked Sascoc to convene a meeting where these issues would be addressed. This meeting has been tentatively scheduled for March 9. Nothing was said of an investigation."

"We remain ready to meet with the minister and the leadership of Sascoc as originally requested, and to provide the minister with any information that he requests," said Petersen.

With regard to the allegations that Fifa funds had disappeared, Petersen said the statement was "completely without foundation".

"The board of trustees will meet in April to finalise the methodology for the disbursement of funds. No individual can access those funds. The money is intact, no one will access it except the board. We are an accountable organisation. We have to account to Fifa, Caf and to our members.

"We are concerned that the CEO of Sascoc, who is supposed to protect the interests of members, is damaging the reputation of Safa and fanning the flames of negative media perceptions. We question his bona fides in this serious matter, as the meeting is yet to be held."
