Current South African music sensation Zahara is topping the list of the South African Music Awards nominees announced yesterday at the Turbine Hall in Newtown Johannesburg.
I cannot believe that in six months in this industry I have been nominated in eleven music award nominations
The vivacious vocalist was nominated in seven categories of the awards for her album, Loliwe, including the Best Newcomer, Album of the Year and Best female Artist of the year.
Zahara’s nomination includes three in the Top 5 categories and one for MTN Record of the Year.
“I cannot believe that in six months in this industry I have been nominated in eleven music award nominations. I am definitely sure that I will come back with four awards at Sun City. I do not know what to say about this. I am really proud of myself and the team,” an excited Zahara said.
“This is great for us, and really shows that we have worked hard. We knew she had talent, but you can never be show until the people say so,” said Zahara producer Robbie Malinga.
TS Records co-owner Thembinkosi Nciza also added his voice about the sucess of Zahara. “It simply shows that if you give the public good music, they respond positively,” he said.
Probably the biggest surprise of the day were newcomers Soul- trio, and Zulu rapper Zakwe who each got five nominations.
Lira has been nominated in Best Producer Category for her album. Newcomer Nomhle Nongogo from Eastern Cape, got two nominations. Pastor Solly Mahlangu walked away with three nominations.
The MTN SAMA 18 takes place on Sunday April 29 and Monday April 30 at the Sun City Resort in the NorthWest.
