Jay-Z pokes fun at Obama rival Romney
Rapper Jay-Z risked upsetting Barack Obama’s campaign managers at one of the President’s final rallies before the election when he replaced the word “b**ch” with “Mitt” during a rendition of his 99 Problems hit – and failed to get it cleared.
Performing alongside Bruce Springsteen at the election eve rally in Columbus, Ohio on Monday, Jay-Z poked fun at Obama’s Republican rival Mitt Romney, substituting his first name where he would usually say the ‘b’ word.
He also changed the word “girl” for “world” as he rapped, “If you’re having world problems, I feel bad for you son/I got 99 problems but Mitt ain’t one.”
The rap star told fans he had not been given clearance from campaign managers to make the switch, and joked he’d be dragged off the stage by Secret Service chiefs.
Otherwise, Jay-Z knew what was at stake and censored himself throughout the song, silencing expletives in 99 Problems.
