As summers in the city get hotter, having a dip in the pool becomes a necessity.

But we all know the age-old tale of "I don't want to get my hair wet".

That's where Nomvuyo Treffers, 39, comes in.

An entrepreneur from Cape Town, she came up with the concept of Swimma - waterproof swimming caps for big hair, be it dreadlocks, braids, Afros, weaves or long hair.

The idea came to her when she wasn't always able to play with her children in the pool because she didn't want to get her dreads wet.

"I didn't want to miss out on quality time, so I had to find a solution," says Treffers.

Her search on the internet was unsuccessful as the relevant products were not available in South Africa.

She then decided to bring the concept to Africa and Swimma was born in August last year.

Treffers distributes the caps nationally.

Her clientele is growing every day. She also plans to supply schools with these caps in their school colours.

"Being a rainbow nation the need for Swimma caps is necessary," she says.

Swimma Caps are available online at www.swimma.co.za or from their Cape Town store in Salt River.
