SULTRY Muvhango actress Sindi Dlathu, who plays Thandaza in the soapie, is venturing into music in a big way.

Dlathu, who once left men drooling for more as a dancer in Mbongeni Ngema's Sarafina, has an album on the way.

But the CD, which has 10 eclectic tracks, is yet to be released, six months after it was handed to a record executive at Gallo Records.

Gallo Records spokesperson Matwetwe Ntombini says the album has not hit the music shop shelves as a result of personal problems.

"We're working hard to have it on the shelves before the year ends or early next year. We hope Sindi's fans will be delighted with what she has to offer.

"We at Gallo Records are behind her all the way. We're just tying up loose ends," says Ntombini.

Dlathu was first spotted by playwright Ngema when she was 14, for Sarafina, the play.

But it was the gripping African Solutions song that earned her her stripes as a singer - and that was the last time her fans heard from her.

Since then, she has held the role of Muvhango's Thandaza, which she has played with aplomb for 10 years.

Her acting career came by chance. She entered a competition where she mimed an Aretha Franklin cover of The Beatles song Let It Be which she won at age 11.

She also entered the Shell Road of Fame, in which she was required to use her own voice, and made it to the finals, at about 12 years of age.

Dlathu gives the credit to a member of the Mahotella Queens, mama Nomsa, who groomed her for showbiz.

She was also the one who took her to audition for Mbogeni Ngema' s Sarafina and the rest, as they say, is history.

In the screen version, she worked alongside Hollywood star Whoopi Goldberg.

Dlathu is married to Bheki Shongwe and is yearning to do more international work. Her ambition is to save the world, stop wars, xenophobia and HIV.
