'Jealous' Mdu goes awol
KWAITO Godfather Mdu Masilela has shown the Metro FM committee the middle finger.
This after the awards committee's invited him to honour kwaito muso Mandla " Spikiri" Mofokeng.
Masilela was invited together with kwaito king Arthur Mafokate to perform in honour of Spikiri and to present him with a lifetime achievement award last night.
Mafokate obliged, but Masilela gave them the cold shoulder.
It is alleged Masilela felt insulted by their request because he arrived in the industry long before Spikiri and has produced more hits than him.
It appears Masilela initially acceded to their request but tacitly pulled out at the 11th hour.
Masilela's absence from the awards became known on Friday when Mafokate was seen rehearsing alone .
"Arthur and Mdu were supposed to arrive on Thursday but only Arthur arrived. They tried to call Masilela but he ignored their calls. It was so embarrassing," says the source.
Mafokate confirms that he was supposed to perform with Masilela in honour of Spikiri.
"When I was invited they told me we were going to do this thing together. I'm sure there must be a serious reason why he chose not to come," he says.
SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago confirmed yesterday that Mdu was invited but did not attend the event
"He told them he would not attend because he had to go to a funeral. We decided to honour Mandla Spikiri because he has been in the music industry for 25 years and Metro FM turned 25 year this year.
