Bafana Bafana have a golden opportunity to mint it with at least R1m each and replacing their rickety jalopies with top of the range Mercs come July 11, if they win the World Cup.
This mouthwatering incentive is part of the package with which the players can remind themselves about their escapades in a spectacle enjoying the biggest global TV coverage of all time.
Safa sponsors, Daimler Chrysler have promised Mercedes Benz vehicles to each player, for 2010 Fifa World Cup success.
Sunday World has also reliably learned that each Bafana player stands to benefit over R100000 for every match they win during the soccer spectacle which kicks off on Friday.
A draw will guarantee them 50% of the win bonus, while defeat will give them over R50000 in match fees.
As if that’s no motivation enough, Bafana will share R1m for every goal they score at the World Cup.
To that end, Bafana will have to work their socks off, as their bonuses will be performance-driven.
But given their moral-boosting 1-0 victory against Denmark yesterday, they look a good bet for a win and a draw from their opening World Cup round.
They have been paired with Mexico, France and Paraguay in World Cup group A.
Although Safa CEO Leslie Sedibe (pictured) has refused to divulge figures he, nonetheless, said the football association were very pleased with the manner in which the new negotiations were conducted.
“We believe we both reached a fair arrangement and both left the negotiations table satisfied,” said Sedibe.
Tony Irish, who was negotiating on behalf of Bafana players, said everything went well, despite an agreement being reached at a late stage.
“The whole process had to be restructured, but Safa were very professional about the whole negotiations process,” said Irish.
Irish said the players have resolved to set themselves back as they will donate about R500000 to grassroots football development from the bonuses.
This would be part of their legacy from the tournament and in recognition of the World Cup.
