Princess of Africa marks 25-year reign

STILL SHINING: Yvonne Chaka Chaka.

Princess of Africa Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s long journey and achievements in the music industry continue to shine unabated.
The singing sensation is celebrating 25 years in the music industry with the Motherland Tour at the Sun City Superbowl on March 6.

Yvonne Chaka Chaka, who is also Unicef’s Roll Back Malaria Goodwill Ambassador, jetted out of the country last week to record a song with US hip-hop star and member of the Grammy award winning band Black Eyed Peas, Will-I-Am.

The Umqombothi star is scheduled to be in the studio on March 1 and 2 for the Millennium Foundation.

The song will be sold on the Internet and through other media.

Chaka Chaka will return to the country three days before her much- anticipated gig at Sun City.

She told Sunday World that she had decided to celebrate her two-and-a-half decades in the music industry at home because she hasn’t been performing regularly at home.

“I have been travelling all over the world, performing, doing my job as a UN ambassador and I felt I should celebrate the 25 years in the music industry at home,” says Chaka Chaka, who is also in studio for her forthcoming album.

She says her documentary with all the women she worked with is about to be completed.

“(The) documentary was shot at the United Nations and in Africa, including Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya and Zambia,” says Chaka Chaka.

The singer’s highly anticipated show will feature artists like Lira, Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse and the St Stithians college marimba band.
