The newly launched Feather Awards have brought out the animal in Afro-pop singer Kelly Khumalo.
This after Khumalo allegedly called the self-styled diva Khanyi Mbau a cheapskate.
Khumalo also confronted dancer Somizi Mhlongo after he made a joke about her and her alleged boyfriend Jub Jub.
Both Khumalo and Mbau were nominated for two awards each, and Mbau won both her nominations.
Khumalo lost the award for Fag Hag of the Year to Mbau, and the Hot Chick of the Year award to model Miriam Ngomane, who dated Prosper Mkwaiwa, Khumalo’s former fiancé.
Mhlongo had the audience in stitches when he performed a song he made up . T he song’s lyrics, targeted at Khumalo, went like :
“There is a virgin I know, she is very prosperous and she is eating marsh ma llows, ekasi we call them Jub Jub…”
According to a bystander, Khumalo confronted Mhlongo, telling him that she hates him and he should never speak to her again.
Khumalo later took on Mbau in the bathroom, calling her a cheapskate.
A source told Sunday World that Khumalo was chatting to her celebrity friends in the bathroom. She storm ed out fuming after Mbau walked in, complaining that “the bathrooms were not five star”.
“Khumalo said ‘Nxa, f**k this cheapskate’,” says the source.
Khumalo revealed on Friday during Penny Lebyane’s show on Metro FM that there is no room for reconciliation between her and Mbau.
She allegedly told Lebyane that Mbau is not important and she does not want her name in the same sentence with her (Mbau).
Socialite Uyanda Mbuli was earlier quoted making similar remarks about Mbau. This resulted in Mbau hitting back at Mbuli on 5FM’s Gareth Cliff Show earlier this month.
The two stars recently spent a week in Zanzibar for the Tropika Island of Treasure 2 competition, and are said to have been at each other’s throats at the paradise island.
Mbau told Sunday World that she is sick and tired of Khumalo. She says Khumalo is older than her and will never be at her level .
“Well, I understand that her pregnancy hormones are rag ing – I have been there before,” she says.
“But I have been stomaching her nonsense for too long. I have changed five cars and she still drives that Toyota of hers .”
Mbau went on to say she’s won awards and Khumalo has won nothing .
She says she is on the database of Louis Vuitton, and Khumalo has never been inside the store.
“At age 24 Khumalo was not near where I am today, I have lived at addresses she can only dream of .
“I have been married and I’m a mother, so she must not talk about levels or call me a cheapskate, because she is a cheaper skate .”
Khumalo could not be reached for comment. Her manager Linda Moeketsi said: “Whatever is happening between the two it’s not positive, and as for Somizi I can’t comment.”
