Knives are out for Motswako presenter Busi Mahlaba, former editor of True Love magazine, who took over the show from Kelebogile Seopela early this year.
Mahlaba is facing a barrage of criticism about her command of the Sesotho language on Motswako The Mix. The show is a Sesotho and English magazine TV programme aimed at empowering women from all social and cultural spheres.
A source close to the situation tells Sunday World that producers have been getting endless complaints about Mahlaba .
And viewers at home are said to be unhappy with her command of the Sesotho language.
That’s the end of it. The source adds that Mahlaba does not give her guests a chance to explain themselves.
“She has a domineering personality and sometimes forgets that the show is not about her,” claims the source.
Mahlaba ’s contract, which ends next month, might not be renewed for season 11 .
Founder of the show and former presenter Carol Bouwer says no decision has been taken. She says Mahlaba is a fantastic person and is still the host of the show .
“We still need to sit down and talk to her about her contract, but at the same time we are keeping our alternatives open, so she is still part of Motswako,” says Bouwer.
Mahlaba, who auditioned with the likes of Metro FM DJ Penny Lebyane and poet extraordinaire Lebo Mashile, apparently gave producers the impression that her Sesotho was perfect.
The source adds that Motswako producers might hold auditions by the end of the year, adding that their eyes are set on the Free State region.
When called for comment, Mahlaba told Sunday World that she was shocked.
“It’s news to me, I’m at a shoot as we speak, thanks for informing me,” she said .
